Tips for planning an event on a small budget

Being affordable and accessible to everyone is something I feel really strongly about with Rare events.

Events are about bringing people together, spending time with your friends/family/clients and celebrating an occasion, so why should not having a huge budget stop you from having an amazing event?

The good news is, it doesn’t have to!

Here are some tips that we recommend if you’re planning an event on a small budget.

BE IMAGINATIVE WITH YOUR VENUE

Your venue is probably going to be the biggest cost you incur within your event, so if you’re watching the pennies then don’t rule out unusual “ugly” spaces. You’ll be surprised what some good lighting and decoration can do to a space.

CLEVER LIGHTING & DECORATIONS

As mentioned above, lighting and decor can completely transform a space. You can really manipulate a space with some creative lighting and you can make some beautiful decorations out of pretty much anything.

It's good to play on your theme here as well, for example if you're doing a summer, garden party you could paint some old wellies or pineapples to match your chosen colour scheme and use them as centrepieces.

BE CREATIVE WITH THE FOOD & DRINK

This is a surprisingly expensive element of an event, but it doesn’t have to be! Play on the theme of your event and maybe serve only a couple of themed dishes and drinks.

This way you are not stocking up on piles of alcohol and plates of food because you're trying to cater to everyone plus you are carrying your theme throughout.

In order to minimise spending costs on things like vegetarian/gluten free foods, consider asking your guests to let you know of any dietary requirements beforehand, so that again, you're not buying unnecessarily.

USE A BUDGET PLANNER

There are some fantastic budget planner templates out there and these can really help you to keep a track of your spending. I would always advise you to estimate the cost of each element and write down realistically what you are happy to pay for it so that you avoid getting carried away and blinded by party sparkle!!

We could go on forever with tips and tricks for small budget events, but overall, with a little creativity and imagination, it is possible to have an amazing party without over spending.
